The clients had a precise vision for how the house would sit on the land: aligned with the valley behind and the ocean in front, with strategic placement of rocks to create an infinity edge view from the living room towards the endless Pacific. Tons of rock, many over 800 pounds, all came from the land, gathered during the old sugarcane farming days in massive piles, then redistributed back into the natural landscape.

Inside, wide plank teak floors run beneath custom cedar ceilings finished with a light whitewash to keep the wood from darkening over time. Ten-foot Fleetwood sliding glass doors open the living space completely to the outside. This is a home built for the long winters not spent in the owner’s native Canada.

The master bathroom features his and hers vanities, open-air bathing, a doorless walk-in shower suited to the climate, and motion-triggered accent lighting.

When the trade winds pick up or the afternoon sun drops low, motorized screens roll down across the lanai, providing instant shade and wind protection without closing the house off from the view it was built around.

A ground-mount solar array, engineered and installed by the Boyd team, powers the home entirely for self-sufficiency in one of Maui's most remote and beautiful settings.
